Softball Recap: Richmond Hill's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Richmond Hill fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Long County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Tide by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Tide apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

A Williams spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Richmond Hill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Reynolds, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Ashella Matias also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Richmond Hill's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8. As for Long County, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-4.

Looking ahead, Richmond Hill will venture away from home to challenge Pinewood Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Long County, they will welcome Jenkins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.26 runs per game on average), something the Blue Tide will no doubt try to take advantage of.
