Basketball Recap: Taylor Matheny Key Part of a Team Effort in Jaguars Win

Motivation hadn't done well against George Washington recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Motivation Jaguars came out on top against the George Washington Eagles by a score of 50-43. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 37-22 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

Motivation's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taylor Matheny led the charge by going 7 of 14 en route to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Joyce Cassell, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 18 points.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Celyne Vah, who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elene Gagnidze, who had nine points.

Motivation now has a winning record of 5-4. As for George Washington, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Motivation will face off against Prep Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for George Washington, they will take on Franklin Towne at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
