The Covenant Academy Rams will venture away from home to take on the First Presbyterian Day Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Covenant Academy comes in on three and First Presbyterian Day on 17.
While Covenant Academy's win against John Hancock Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams skirted past the Rebels 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since February 28th.
Asa Wood
Asa Wood made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Covenant Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 11-12 otherwise. Wood was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Seth Daugherty was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hayden Korink, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Covenant Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Hancock Academy only posted a batting average of .160.
First Presbyterian Day came out on top against John Milledge Academy on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Vikings blew past the Trojans 7-1. Considering the Vikings have won 17 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
First Presbyterian Day's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Covenant Academy, the win got them back to even at 13-13.
Covenant Academy might still be hurting after the 24-0 loss they got from First Presbyterian Day in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
