Basketball Game Preview: Marysville Indians vs. Wheatland Pirates

Marysville is 7-2 against Wheatland since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Marysville Indians will host the Wheatland Pirates at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Marysville's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Wheatland has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Marysville will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Lincoln, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Marysville walked away with a 55-48 victory over Lincoln on Wednesday.

Abigail Pietz and Demi Boykin were among the main playmakers for Marysville as the former posted 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards and the latter had 15 points along with five assists and three steals. Pietz has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 46 times she's played. Alexis Collins was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

Marysville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 48 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Wheatland was beaten by Bear River 54-20 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1146th, while the Bruins are ranked 334th).

Marysville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Wheatland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Everything came up roses for Marysville against Wheatland when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 65-24 win. In that match, Marysville amassed a halftime lead of 36-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
