Baseball Recap: Fort Wayne Northrop Comes Up Short

Fort Wayne Northrop extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 9-12. They came up short against the Heritage Patriots, falling 18-7. That's two games in a row now that the Bruins have lost by exactly 11 runs.

Dylan Todd made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Wayne Northrop's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-11 when he doesn't).

As for Heritage, their win bumped their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Heritage's side, Corbin Saalfrank made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Saalfrank a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Heritage got a massive performance out of Beau Stoppenhagen, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lucas Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Fort Wayne Northrop will challenge Bellmont at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Heritage, they will head out to take on Eastside at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
