Softball Recap: Frederick Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Frederick extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping them up to 10-3. They blew past the Monarch Coyotes 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Elayna Fisher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Ella Stromberg was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Horne, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Monarch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-4 Horizon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.1% over those games).

On Monarch's side, Capri Polluconi was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Polluconi has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Polluconi wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Callie Kinney, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Kinney's first of the season.

Frederick has already played their next match, a 12-2 defeat against Horizon on the 16th. As for Monarch, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 18-0 victory against Poudre on the 13th.
