Valencia kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 49-41 to the Simi Valley Pioneers. Despite 174 more yards than the Pioneers, the Vikings couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Valencia still got an impressive performance from Brian Bonner Jr, who rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 33 receiving yards and a touchdown. Brady Bretthauer was another major influence, as he rushed for 49 yards and ran in a TD.

Even though they lost, Valencia was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 518 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Simi Valley only gained 344.

Valencia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jack Younkin, Nick Seymour, and Ronald Bruner picked up one apiece. Seymour was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 58 yards.

Brice Hawkins had an outrageously good game for Simi Valley as he rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry.

The victory made it two in a row for Simi Valley and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Valencia will take on Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Valencia focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Simi Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Royal at 7:00 p.m. on September 6th.
