Basketball Recap: Downey Comes Up Short

If Downey was feeling good fresh off their 76-40 takedown of Warren on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings took a blow against the Paramount Pirates on Wednesday, falling 67-29. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Downey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Natalie Gomez posted 12 points along with seven blocks and six rebounds. Gomez has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Paramount, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Downey and Paramount will both be playing Lynwood the next time they take the court. The Vikings will host the Knights at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, while the Pirates will host them at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
