Softball Recap: Gilmer Find Success

It was a proper cat-fight when Gilmer challenged Ridgeland on Tuesday. The Bobcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Bobcats: when they faced off against the Panthers back in August, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Braley Stewart made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Phoenix Addie was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

The win made it two in a row for Gilmer and bumps their season record up to 16-13. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Ridgeland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Gilmer will have a chance to go back-to-back against Ridgeland: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
