Volleyball Recap: Homestead's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of seven wins, Homestead's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 3-1 to the Waukesha North Northstars. The Highlanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Northstars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.

Homestead came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23.

Reese Lalonde paced Homestead's offense, picking up 24 kills. Lalonde got some help from Anya Mikhailenko and her 39 assists. Nyla Steltz controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Ariel Thao went supernova For Waukesha North., getting seven digs and four aces. That's the most aces Thao has posted over her last six matchups.

Homestead's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Waukesha North, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-15 record this season.

Homestead and Waukesha North should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Highlanders will challenge Whitefish Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (50 vs. 237). Meanwhile, Waukesha North (ranked 158th) will meet Shorewood (ranked 330th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
