Basketball Recap: Nucla Beats Telluride for Their Seventh Straight Victory

Nucla extended their winning streak to seven on Friday, bumping them up to 7-0. They blew past the Telluride Miners 52-29. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Nucla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brycen Rummel out in front who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Rummel is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 31 games he's played dating back to last season. Holten McCluer was another key player, shooting 53% from the field to rack up 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.

As for Telluride, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Telluride lost, don't look at Alex Nieto. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points.

Looking ahead, Nucla won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monticello at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Telluride, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ouray at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2026.
