Softball Recap: Lafayette County Huskers vs. Brookfield Bulldogs

Lafayette County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brookfield Bulldogs.

Myla Petersen was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in October of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Petersen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Baylee Crawford, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Lafayette County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Brookfield, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Lafayette County will head out to square off against Richmond at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brookfield, they will host Polo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.86 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
