Baseball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

Central had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it five. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Farmington Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.

As for Farmington, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Farmington's part, they gave Cooper Holmes the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Holmes a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Nolan Blankenship was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chase Owens, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Central has already played their next contest (against Principia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Farmington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 4-2 victory against North County on the 7th.
