Basketball Recap: Avenal Takes a Loss

Avenal lost against Mendota back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Avenal Buccaneers were dealt a 52-24 defeat at the hands of the Mendota Aztecs. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1170th, while the Aztecs are ranked 332nd).

Avenal has also been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Mendota, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-5.

Coming up, Avenal will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Tranquillity at 5:00 p.m. Avenal is facing Tranquillity at the right time seeing as Tranquillity is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Mendota, they will head out to face off against Firebaugh at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
