Softball Recap: Valley Park Comes Up Short

If Valley Park was riding high fresh off their 19-4 takedown of Maplewood-Richmond Heights on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hawks lost 15-7 to the Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights on Monday. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Red Knights from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Adison Durbin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. Durbin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Charley Perkins and Jenna Chitwood stepped up to the plate in a big way. Perkins went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, while Chitwood went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Valley Park now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Incarnate Word Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-13 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Park will welcome St. Charles West at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Parkway Central at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
