Basketball Recap: Cape Hatteras Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Cape Hatteras won the last time they faced Ocracoke, and Taylor Hickman did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes strolled past the Ocracoke Dolphins with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 53-34 which was due in part to Hickman, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 15 boards. She also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Cape Hatteras is undefeated when she posts at least five steals, but 6-8 otherwise.

Gabby Baker was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds. What's more, she posted four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

Several Dolphins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jami Martinez, who earned 12 points. Another player making a difference was Sara Fanani, who put up 11 points.

Cape Hatteras is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points over those games. Ocracoke dropped their record down to 6-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Cape Hatteras didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-43 defeat against Roxboro Community on the 25th. Ocracoke does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
