Basketball Recap: Valley Christian Academy Lions vs. Coastal Christian Conquerors
After losing to the Coastal Christian Conquerors the last time they met, the Valley Christian Academy Lions decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Valley Christian Academy pulled ahead with a 40-39 photo finish over the Conquerors. The win made it back-to-back wins for Valley Christian Academy.
Valley Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Katelyn Mikkelson, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Walker, who scored six points.
When it comes to explaining why Coastal Christian lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Jenna Starkovich. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Starkovich has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Maggie Moore was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven steals.
Even though they lost, Coastal Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian Academy only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Valley Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Coastal Christian, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Christian Academy will take on the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Coastal Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Broncos at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Coast Union comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
