Softball Recap: Cor Jesu Academy's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Cor Jesu Academy dropped down to 7-4 on Saturday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins. They lost 8-2 to the Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights. The game marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Cor Jesu Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Incarnate Word Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Incarnate Word Academy's side, Bella Schwetz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Incarnate Word Academy got a massive performance out of Erin Meriwether, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Meriwether is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Lauryn Walker was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Coincidentally, Cor Jesu Academy and Incarnate Word Academy will both be playing Jackson the next time they take the field. The Chargers will host the Fighting Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Red Knights will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
