Basketball Recap: Willows Takes a Loss

Willows was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Durham Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Honkers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 880th, while the Trojans are ranked 316th).

Despite the loss, Willows still got an impressive performance from Karla DiMaggio, who posted 26 points. That was a full 54.2% of Willows' points, marking the fourth time in a row DiMaggio has scored more than a third of the team's points. Emily Neuhauer was another key player, putting up nine points.

Durham was led to victory by Kyleigh Flux and Ava Bunch. Flux went 7-for-14 en route to 17 points, while Bunch went 5-for-11 on her way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karla Rangel, who earned seven points and six boards.

Willows' defeat dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Durham, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Willows didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-36 loss against West Valley on the 18th. As for Durham, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-47 victory against Portola on the 19th.
