Football Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Helix Highlanders + How To Watch

Mount Miguel is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Helix Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Mount Miguel is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Oceanside just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 26-25 to the Pirates. Despite 92 more yards than the Pirates, the Matadors couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Mount Miguel's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeremiah Loper, who threw for 215 yards and four TDs, and Aj Logan, who picked up 147 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Logan is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jayden Hunter handled things on the ground, rushing for 83 yards.

Meanwhile, Helix lost a heartbreaker to Mater Dei Catholic when they met back in December of 2021, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Highlanders fell 13-0 to the Crusaders. The Highlanders haven't had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Helix's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mount Miguel, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Mount Miguel was able to grind out a solid win over Helix in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 48-35. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Highlanders' Isaiah Jackson, who rushed for 171 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 32 yards and one TD.
