Basketball Recap: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Weed Cougars
Mt. Shasta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Weed Cougars and fell 68-10. The Bears lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 49-21 score last time.
Annabelle McCarthy went supernova for Weed, as she made all 7 shots she took for 16 points and three steals. McCarthy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maci Phillips, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.
Mt. Shasta's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Weed, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Mt. Shasta and Anderson will meet on Thursday for a tough Bear Battle. As for Weed, they will be taking part in a tournament against Redding Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Weed's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Redding Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
