Basketball Recap: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. Wilkes Central Eagles
In what's become a running theme this season, the Surry Central Golden Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Wilkes Central 86-53 on the road. The win was familiar territory for Surry Central who now have three in a row.
Leading Surry Central to victory were Tripp Mcmillen and Ayden Wilmoth. Mcmillen scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Wilmoth dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Wilmoth is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Martin, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gus Keener, who scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Keener has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brady Scott, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Surry Central is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Wilkes Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing North Wilkes the next time they take the court. Surry Central will host the Vikings at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Eagles will host them at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
