Football Recap: Gadsden Starts Season with Victory Against Chaparral

Gadsden gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They blew past the Chaparral Lobos 50-20. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Lobos recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Gadsden's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JUAN RIOS, who rushed for 156 yards and two TDs while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns RIOS has posted since back in September of 2024. DEION TORRES was in the mix as well, providing Gadsden with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gadsden was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaparral only rushed for 144 rushing yards.

Raul Lopez and Israel Nieto certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Lopez gained 163 total yards and two touchdowns, while Nieto rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown.

Looking ahead, Gadsden will square off against Valencia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chaparral, they will face off against Hatch Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
