Football Recap: Colby Comes Up Short

Colby was the 21-17 winner over Hugoton when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Colby was outmatched by Hugoton and fell 63-18. Colby was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-6.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gage Krohn, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one TD. Krohn's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Cody Wright, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

This is the second loss in a row for Colby and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Hugoton, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Coming up, Colby will venture away from home to challenge Holcomb at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 32.8 points per game this season. As for Hugoton, they will take on Scott on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Eagles 7.8, the Beavers 3.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
