Basketball Recap: Poly Comes Up Short

Poly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Rancho Christian Eagles and fell 86-41. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-20.

Despite the loss, Poly saw an underclassman step up: freshman Abby Folsom posted 17 points. That was a full 41.5% of Poly's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Juliet Zaragoza was another key player, putting up eight points.

Rancho Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Julia Wilson, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 assists, and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Wilson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ebony Taylor-Smith, who went 10 of 19 on her way to 30 points.

Poly now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Rancho Christian, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poly will square off against Moreno Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Moreno Valley will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Poly surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rancho Christian, they will face off against Paloma Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rancho Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73.8 points per game this season.
