Basketball Game Preview: Sierra Chieftains vs. Riverdale Cowboys

The Sierra Chieftains will face off against the Riverdale Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sierra has eight straight wins, Riverdale has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Sierra earned a 48-36 victory over Parlier.

Kinley Ferguson was nothing short of spectacular: she posted 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Aleeawa Badoni, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

Sierra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Riverdale played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Strathmore 58-27. The Cowboys were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-6.

Sierra pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Riverdale, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

Everything came up roses for Sierra against Riverdale in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 66-9 victory. Will Sierra repeat their success, or does Riverdale have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
