Soccer Recap: Leland Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Leland brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They never let the Piedmont Hills Pirates onto the board and left with a 5-0 victory on Thursday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Pirates are ranked 358th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leland hit Piedmont Hills with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Aylin Altinel (2), Annika Park, Mili Fisher, and Taytem Condit.

Leland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those five games. As for Piedmont Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6-6.

Leland has already played their next contest (against Gilroy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Piedmont Hills is taking a road trip to square off against Mills at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mills knows how to get goals on the board -- the team has finished with four goals or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Piedmont Hills likes a good challenge.
