Baseball Recap: Seattle Academy Takes a Loss

Seattle Academy dropped to 12-10-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Eastside Catholic Crusaders by a score of 3-2. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 7-2.

Eli Herst spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Seattle Academy is 5-2-1 when Herst posts eight or more strikeouts, but 7-8-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Seattle Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Becker, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Eastside Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 20th.

On Eastside Catholic's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Jay Baxter gave up just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Baxter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kobe Reese, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

As of now, neither Seattle Academy nor Eastside Catholic have any future games scheduled.
