Basketball Recap: Kaitlyn Simpson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Burwell over Arcadia/Loup City

After flying high against Palmer last Tuesday, Burwell came back down to earth. The Burwell Longhorns fell 45-37 to the Arcadia/Loup City Rebels on Friday. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Burwell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaitlyn Simpson, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points and eight boards. Laurel Mann was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Eva Jaixen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Arcadia/Loup City, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Jaixen has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Rademacher, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Burwell has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Arcadia/Loup City, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burwell will host Twin Loup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arcadia/Loup City, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wood River at 6:30 p.m.
