Basketball Recap: Hayley Gibson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead California over Aquinas Academy

California saw some tournament action on Friday. They lost to the Aquinas Academy Crusaders on the road by a 45-29 margin.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayley Gibson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Lila Mitchell, who posted seven points and 17 rebounds.

Katie Tarquinio was a one-woman wrecking crew For Aquinas Academy. as she almost dropped a triple-double with 14 points, 13 boards, and nine steals. Those 14 points gave Tarquinio a new career-high. Tess Duer was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

California's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Aquinas Academy, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

California didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-50 loss against Riverview on the 6th. As for Aquinas Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-48 win against Seton LaSalle on the 6th.
