Football Game Preview: Jefferson County North Chargers vs. Onaga Buffaloes

The Jefferson County North Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Onaga Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Jefferson County North put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They blew past Pleasant Ridge 50-12. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Onaga made easy work of Valley Falls on Friday and carried off a 32-6 win. Considering the Buffaloes' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Onaga found their leader in freshman Ryder Kolterman, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Those 121 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Kolterman. Gavin Kolterman was in the mix too, providing Onaga with two scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Onaga proved: they limited Valley Falls to a paltry -1.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Keagan Venneberg for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the most yards per carry they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Onaga didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Joshua Daniels, Luke Poell, and Brett Kaberline picked up one apiece.

The victory got Onaga back to even at 2-2. As for Jefferson County North, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Jefferson County North didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Onaga in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 28-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
