The Mission Viejo Diablos are taking a road trip to take on the Chaparral Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Mission Viejo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: McCallie, who was ranked first in their home state at the time (Mission Viejo was ranked seventh). The Diablos took a 25-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Tornado on Friday. The loss was the Diablos' first of the season.
Mission Viejo's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Luke Fahey, who rushed for 103 yards on only ten carries, and Davonte Curtis, who rushed for 53 yards and two scores.

Even if they lost, Mission Viejo's defense still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Kane Nolte was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They breezed past Great Oak to the tune of 64-14 on Friday. The Pumas have beaten the Wolfpack the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolfpack has come to flipping the script.
Mission Viejo better focus on containing Dane Weber and Trevor Schneider as the pair were huge in Chaparral's win. Weber threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, while Schneider rushed for 200 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. With that strong performance, Schneider is now averaging an impressive 115 rushing yards per game. Chaparral also got help from Tycen Johnson, who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Chaparral was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Mission Viejo fell to 4-1. As for Chaparral, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Mission Viejo has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 363 total yards per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 519 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Everything came up roses for Mission Viejo against Chaparral in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 51-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Diablos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
