Baseball Game Preview: Medford Mustangs vs. Chelsea Red Devils

Medford is a perfect 10-0 against Chelsea since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. Chelsea took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Medford, who comes in off a win.

Medford barely beat Revere the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Patriots 11-1 on Monday. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Travers Moodie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Jayden Burns was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Medford: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. Dave Crohan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Chelsea's offense. They came up short against Malden on Monday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Red Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Medford's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Chelsea, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

Medford got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Chelsea by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
