Archbishop McCarthy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Norland by a score of 24-14.
Archbishop McCarthy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damien Grant, who rushed for 95 yards and one score. Another receiver making a difference was Ja'Kobi Williams, who picked up 57 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Archbishop McCarthy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mahki Vance and Ji'Koi Highsmith. Another thorn in Norland's side was Samuel Boatwright, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, American Heritage was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Plantation 48-7. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Archbishop McCarthy better keep an eye on Jonathan Bueno Jr. He was instrumental in American Heritage's win, rushing for 73 yards and two TDs on only nine carries. They are undefeated when Bueno Jr posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 3-5 otherwise.
American Heritage's run defense was locked in: Plantation could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. While three picked up at least six total tackles, Micah Price stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss). American Heritage's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.
Archbishop McCarthy's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for American Heritage, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Archbishop McCarthy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for American Heritage, though, as they've been averaging only 85.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Archbishop McCarthy came out on top in a nail-biter against American Heritage in their previous matchup back in October, sneaking past 13-10. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
