High school basketball rankings: Big wins help propel Wisconsin Lutheran, Archbishop Stepinac into MaxPreps Top 25

Jackson-Reed and Great Crossing also earned a place among the nation's elite this week.

Preseason No. 1 Columbus (Miami, Fla.) reclaims the top spot in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings after picking up a pair of signature victories at the Spalding Hoophall Classic. The Explorers knocked off previous No. 1 Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) and National Top 10 No. 2 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) in the span of three days behind the play of Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer and Jase Richardson.

Wisconsin Lutheran (Milwaukee, Wis.) made the biggest jump in the rankings this week. The Vikings debut at No. 13 after picking up a 70-68 victory over previous No. 17 De Pere (Wis.), snapping a 42-game win streak.

Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, N.Y.) goes from unranked to No. 18 this week after beating No. 6 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 74-67 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.

Jackson-Reed (Washington, D.C.) and Great Crossing (Georgetown, Ky.) join Wisconsin Lutheran and Archbishop Stepinac as newcomers to the rankings.



Previous No. 6 Edmond North (Edmond, Okla.), No. 16 Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.), No. 17 De Pere and No. 19 North Mecklenburg (Huntersville, N.C.) all dropped out of the MaxPreps Top 25 after losses.

The Explorers reclaim the top spot in the rankings after an impressive week that saw them knock off National Top 10 No. 2 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) 81-62 and previous No. 1 Paul VI 70-61 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.

After claiming the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions with key wins over previous No. 11 McEachern and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), the Panthers lost their second game of the season to newly-minted No. 1 Columbus.

Knocked off Coppell 71-58 and Plano West (Plano) 88-61 last week. The Panthers have outscored their opponents by an average of over 21 points per contest this season.

Secured a quality victory over Northwood (Pittsboro) 63-47 paced by 18 points and seven rebounds from Notre Dame signee Sir Mohammed. Tennessee signee Bishop Boswell piled up 13 assists in the win.

Escaped with a 60-59 overtime victory against previous No. 11 McEachern at the Spalding Hoophall Classic paced by 21 points, eight rebounds and two blocks from four-star junior Nikolas Khamenia. The Wolverines continue a tough stretch of games this week as they face undefeated Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) tomorrow and travel to one-loss Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) on Friday.

Despite suffering a tough 74-67 loss to No. 18 Archbishop Stepinac at the Spalding Hoophall Classic, the Ironmen only drop two spots due to a strong resume that includes victories over No. 1 Columbus and No. 17 McEachern earlier in the season.

The Palmetto State power is the only top 10 team that remains in the same spot as last week ahead of an anticipated in-state showdown with a one-loss Westwood (Blythewood) tomorrow.

Took down Hudson Catholic (Jersey City, N.J.) 72-67 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic paced by a strong effort from four-star juniors Derek Dixon (19 points), Nykolas Lewis (17 points, seven assists, three steals) and Christian Gurdak (16 points, seven rebounds, four blocks).

After picking up a pair of 31-point victories over Albertville and Sparkman (Harvest), a defining week awaits the Panthers as they face No. 23 Kell on Saturday at the Braggin' Rights AL vs. GA Showcase.

Blew past previously-unbeaten Catholic Memorial (West Roxbury, Mass.) 87-69 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic behind 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals from sophomore wing Brannon Martinsen.

Junior guard Uzziah Buntyn scored a game-high 16 points in a 78-43 win over Vista Ridge (Cedar Park) while Villanova signee Josiah Moseley put up 24 points with four steals in a 65-57 victory over Round Rock Westwood (Austin).

Took home a pair of single-digit victories last week, defeating St. Mary's Ryken (Leonardstown, Md.) 64-61 and Cardinal Ritter (St. Louis, Mo.) 63-54. Three-star guard Jadyn Harris led the way with 20 points while four-star senior Bryson Tucker chipped in 17 points in the win over Cardinal Ritter at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.

The Vikings make their debut in the MaxPreps Top 25 after defeating previous No. 17 De Pere 70-68 to snap its 42-game win streak. Five-star Duke signee Kon Knueppel put on a dazzling display in the win, finishing with 38 points and eight rebounds.

Suffered their second defeat of the season over the weekend at the Spalding Hoophall Classic, falling to Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.) 64-63 on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. The Rams bounced back with a 78-55 victory over Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) at the Dream Classic paced by 22 points from Appalachian State commit Anthony Alston.

Split four games in trips to the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions and the Spalding Hoophall Classic. McEachern picked up wins over Vashon (St. Louis, Mo.) and previous No. 6 Edmond North (Edmond, Okla.) but fell to No. 2 Paul VI and No. 5 Harvard-Westlake in overtime.

The Royals are piecing together an impressive resume that includes a runner-up finish at the 'Iolani Classic.

The defending Class AAAA state champions continue to breeze through their schedule as they extended their win streak to 23 games dating back to last season with 83-54 triumph against Buffalo.

The defending Class AAAAA state champions look to build on a strong resume that includes winning the Arby's Classic title with a victory over No. 23 Jackson-Reed. Next up is No. 9 Huntsville in an anticipated showdown at the Braggin' Rights AL vs. GA Showcase on Saturday.

Picked up a pair of statement victories over the weekend, blowing out National Top 10 No. 9 Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) 69-40 behind 23 points and six rebounds from senior guard Scottie Hubbard and dismantling Berkmar (Lilburn, Ga.) 71-42 led by 13 points and six rebounds from senior forward Kai Settles at the Dream Classic.

The Wildcats had a busy stretch of games last week with four wins in the span of five days. A 67-59 victory over Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) was the only game decided by less than 10 points during the congested slate.

Enter the rankings for the first time this season after picking up an out-of-state victory over Princeton (Cincinnati, Ohio) 79-74 at the Holiday Hardwood Classic. Four-star junior Malachi Moreno posted 20 points and seven rebounds in the win.
