Baseball Recap: Coon Rapids Comes Up Short

Coon Rapids had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-15 to make it five. They fell 9-5 to the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets. The Cardinals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bluejackets from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Coon Rapids saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haydon Lundquist, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was Lundquist's first of the season. L Westkendrick was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Cambridge-Isanti, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Cambridge-Isanti's side, Blake Wotachek and Tayton Westphal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wotachek struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Westphal tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cambridge-Isanti is 2-1 when Westphal allows three or fewer hits, but 4-8 otherwise. At bat, Wotachek went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Westphal got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Peyton Coplan and Marcus Hubbard did most of the damage at the plate: Coplan went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Hubbard went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Coplan a new career-high.

As of now, neither Coon Rapids nor Cambridge-Isanti have any future games scheduled.
