Basketball Recap: Ferndale Comes Up Short

Ferndale suffered their biggest defeat since February 5, 2024 on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 67-37 loss at the hands of the St. Bernard's Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Crusaders are ranked 116th).

Ferndale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gianna Regli, who posted nine points, and Tinnley Pidgeon, who had 12 points.

Laila Florvilus was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 29 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals for St. Bernard's. Florvilus is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Carli Baum was another key player, putting up eight points and seven steals.

Ferndale's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for St. Bernard's, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Ferndale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 36-34 loss against McKinleyville on the 11th. As for St. Bernard's, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-46 victory against Eureka on the 11th.
