Basketball Recap: Eagle Rock Comes Up Short

Eagle Rock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the George Washington Prep Generals.

When it comes to explaining why Eagle Rock lost, don't look at Marysol Jernigan. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nylah Moore, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Eagle Rock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.

George Washington Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jay'La Ray, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 boards. Ray has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaleyah Lucien, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Eagle Rock's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for George Washington Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Eagle Rock will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on January 15th. George Washington Prep also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against GALA at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th.
