Basketball Game Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. Williamson Warriors

Sayre and Williamson are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Sayre Redskins are taking a road trip to square off against the Williamson Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sayre is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Sayre is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Athens on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Sayre was dealt a 51-15 loss at the hands of Athens. The Redskins were down 41-9 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Sayre's defeat came about despite a quality game from Rylee Lantz, who posted seven points in addition to 12 boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Williamson over Montgomery in every quarter on their way to victory last Monday. Williamson blew past Montgomery 55-30. The Warriors' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Sayre better keep an eye on Olivia Meisner. She was instrumental in Williamson's win, going 12 of 15 on her way to 24 points and six rebounds. Meisner is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenna Thomas, who had six points along with seven boards and four steals.

Williamson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Sayre's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Williamson, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

Sayre might still be hurting after the 38-15 defeat they got from Williamson in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds.
