Soccer Game Preview: South El Monte vs. Arroyo

The South El Monte Eagles will head out to square off against the Arroyo Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

South El Monte is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to four goals on Thursday, they were much more limited against Marshall on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 4-1. The defeat continues a trend for South El Monte in their matchups with Marshall: they've now lost nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Arroyo has been on a difficult stretch since their win on December 12. They lost 9-2 to Marshall on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1107th, while the Eagles are ranked 472nd).

South El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 10-6-1. As for Arroyo, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12-3.

South El Monte was able to grind out a solid victory over Arroyo in their previous meeting back in January, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for South El Monte since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
