Basketball Recap: Alina Argueta's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Banning over Marymount

If Banning was feeling good fresh off their 66-10 takedown of South East last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Banning Pilots opened the new year with a less-than-successful 36-28 loss to the Marymount Sailors. While losing is never fun, the Pilots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 801st, while the Sailors are ranked 373rd).

Banning's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alina Argueta, who posted nine points.

Banning's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Marymount, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.

Banning will venture away from home to face off against Rancho Dominguez at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Banning is facing Rancho Dominguez at the right time seeing as Rancho Dominguez is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Marymount, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Immaculate Heart at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th.
