Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Cathedral Catholic Dons
The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 69-40 defeat at the hands of Cathedral Catholic. While losing is never fun, Mater Dei Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while Cathedral Catholic is ranked 191st).
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Promise Martin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Awen Carrillo, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Cathedral Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alana Brackett, who scored 23 points along with six assists and three steals. Brackett hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Moeller, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds.
Mater Dei Catholic dropped their record down to 9-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Cathedral Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-10.
Mater Dei Catholic will head out on the road to square off against Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastlake is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Cathedral Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Westview at 7:00 p.m. Cathedral Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 214 points over their last three contests.
