Baseball Game Preview: Briarwood Academy Buccaneers vs. Glascock County Panthers

The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers will venture away from home to face off against the Glascock County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Briarwood Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Last Thursday, Briarwood Academy made easy work of Augusta Prep Day and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

Blake Tench was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Banks DeMore, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Carson Callaway was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Briarwood Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Meanwhile, Glascock County had just enough and edged out Brentwood 7-6 on Friday.

Glascock County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Briarwood Academy, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Briarwood Academy suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Glascock County when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
