Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. San Ysidro Cougars

The St. Augustine Saints will face off against the San Ysidro Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Ysidro took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Augustine, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, St. Augustine had just enough and edged out Coronado 2-1. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Islanders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jonny Haskett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has become a key player for St. Augustine: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 8-17 otherwise.

On the hitting side, St. Augustine's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mario Vitale, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, San Ysidro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastlake.

Carlos Orozco made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexavier Abdala, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

St. Augustine's win bumped their record up to 11-17. As for San Ysidro, their loss dropped their record down to 7-20.

St. Augustine was able to grind out a solid victory over San Ysidro in their previous matchup back in March, winning 5-2. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
