Basketball Recap: Vista Murrieta Comes Up Short

Vista Murrieta lost against Chaparral two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Vista Murrieta Broncos took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chaparral Pumas.

Defeat or not, Vista Murrieta got some senior leadership from Shajade Banks and Jordyn Smith. Banks posted seven points in addition to 12 boards and five steals, while Smith earned 11 points and five rebounds. Vista Murrieta is 4-2 when Banks posts five or more steals, but 8-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Burnett, who scored four points and eight rebounds.

Chaparral found their leader in sophomore Zetta Faasua, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards. Faasua has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Costello, who had nine points.

Vista Murrieta now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Chaparral, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.

Vista Murrieta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chaparral, they will venture away from home to challenge Murrieta Valley at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th.
