Basketball Game Preview: Bishop O'Dowd Dragons vs. American Eagles

The Bishop O'Dowd Dragons will challenge the American Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bishop O'Dowd easily dispatched San Leandro on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Bishop O'Dowd fell just short of Oakland Tech by a score of 47-44 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for American, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 57-35 margin over Kennedy on Friday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Titans are ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

American found their leader in sophomore Shirina Shi, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 17 points and three steals. The match was Shi's 18th in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Anika Batra, who posted 11 points.

American smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Bishop O'Dowd's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for American, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Bishop O'Dowd strolled past American when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 54-35. Will Bishop O'Dowd repeat their success, or does American have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
