Football Game Preview: Waterloo West Wahawks vs. Dowling Catholic Maroons

The Waterloo West Wahawks will take on the Dowling Catholic Maroons on Friday. Waterloo West has given up an average of 29.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Waterloo West is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Waukee on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wahawks were outmatched by the Warriors and fell 49-21. While losing is never fun, the Wahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Warriors are ranked 20th).

Meanwhile, Dowling Catholic entered their tilt with Marshalltown on Friday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Their defense stepped up to hand the Bobcats a 42-0 shutout. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Maroons just coasted through the last quarter.

With the defeat, Waterloo West broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Dowling Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

Waterloo West was dealt a bruising 55-7 loss at the hands of Dowling Catholic when the teams last played back in September. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Wahawks were down 41-0.
