Baseball Recap: Franklin Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Gouverneur on Tuesday, Franklin Academy came back down to earth. The Huskies fell just short of the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The Huskies have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Liam McQuinn put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Franklin Academy: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

McQuinn wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brady Sutton, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Sutton is becoming a predictor of Franklin Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

Franklin Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Ogdensburg Free Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Franklin Academy beat Ogdensburg Free Academy by a score of 9-1 later that day.
