Basketball Recap: American Makes It Four in a Row at Home

If Mission San Jose wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played American, they should've done a better job of containing Shirina Shi. The American Eagles walked away with a 68-55 victory over the Mission San Jose Warriors on Thursday thanks in part to Shi, who went 10 for 22 on her way to 35 points and seven assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of American's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Siya Kulkarni, who posted 11 points. Those 11 points gave her a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Mission San Jose saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adhuna Devineni went 7 of 17 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. Patricia Wu was another key player, putting up seven points and 13 boards.

American pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Mission San Jose, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

American has already played their next matchup, a 55-40 loss against Washington on the 14th. As for Mission San Jose, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-26 victory against Irvington on the 14th.
