Softball Recap: Northfield Nighthawks vs. Denver North Vikings

Northfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Denver North on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4. If the Nighthawks were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Vikings when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brielle Montoya was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 7.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Montoya was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

Montoya wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Audrina Srichabok, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Srichabok has hit this season. Maci Molinary was another, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Northfield's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for Denver North, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
